On 15 April, the Embassy in Nicosia, in cooperation with the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, organized a piano concert entitled "Chopin's Birthday.” This year, the anniversary of the birth of Poland's greatest composer was celebrated with a slight delay due to the geopolitical situation and the increased level of travel advisories for Cyprus.
In the prestigious interiors of the Pallas Theatre, the seat of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, representatives of Cypriot authorities, business, academic and cultural circles, the Polish community, the diplomatic corps, as well as Cypriot music lovers gathered at the invitation of the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, Mr Marek Szczepanowski.
In his welcome address, the Ambassador introduced the guests to the atmosphere of piano recitals, presenting the life and work of F. Chopin as well as the historical context. The audience then watched a film produced by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute entitled “A Guided Tour of the Fryderyk Chopin Museum in Warsaw.” The evening was devoted to the music of F. Chopin, performed excellently by the young and talented pianist, a participant in the 19th International Chopin Piano Competition, Krzysztof Wierciński. His virtuosity and interpretations were met with admiration from the guests. A particularly special moment was the symbolic celebration of the composer’s birthday, marked by the appearance of a birthday cake on stage.
The encounter with Chopin’s music in the heart of Nicosia confirmed that his work continues to move and unite people across borders. The event also became an invitation to visit Poland and places associated with F. Chopin.
