Polish-Cypriot Seminar on New Technologies
25.05.2021
On May 25th the Polish-Cypriot Seminar on New Technologies „From innovation to economic diplomacy” was held at the University of Cyprus in Nicosia.
The speakers were female experts specializing in entrepreneurship, management, start-ups, artificial intelligence, socio-economic trends forecasting and diplomacy. They attended the seminar upon the invitation of the Embassy of Poland in Nicosia.
Guests were welcomed by the Rector of the University of Cyprus Prof. Tasos Christofides and Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Mrs Irena Lichnerowicz-Augustyn. Introductory speeches were delivered by Deputy Minister to the President for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of the Republic of Cyprus Mr Kyriacos Kokkinos and Chief Scientist for Research and Innovation of the Republic of Cyprus Mr Nikolas Mastroyiannopoulos.
The seminar gave the opportunity to exchange views and experiences on chances, threats and challenges for the new technologies sector and economic diplomacy in view of the changed reality created by the Covid-19 pandemic and its projected long-lasting consequences. The core issue to have been discussed was the role of women in these processes and the reasons for still existing gaps and imbalance in the representation of women and men in leadership positions in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) industries and sectors, as well as in politics and diplomacy.
As an outcome of the event, the Polish and Cypriot experts established close contacts which will certainly result in their further cooperation and joint projects in the future.
We would like to thank all the participants who joined us in person or on-line on our Facebook page. We also want to express our gratitude to KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. for its valuable support and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as the Polish-Cypriot Chamber of Commerce for cooperation.
