Polish National Day, the 3rd of May Constitution Day

On April 29, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nicosia, together with Honorary Consul General Mr. Leandros Papaphilippou, organized a reception to mark the occasion of the Polish National Day, the 3rd of May Constitution Day. The event took place at the prestigious Cultural Centre of the University of Cyprus in Nicosia.
The event was attended by representatives of the Cypriot government, business, academic and cultural circles, the Polish community, clergy, and the diplomatic corps. The Government of the Republic of Cyprus was represented by Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Giorgos Papanastasiou. Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos, Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nikodemos Damianou, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andreas Kakouris were also present. In total, over 150 guests attended the event.
In his speech, Ambassador Marek Szczepanowski highlighted the significance of the Polish Constitution of May 3rd, which was the first document of its kind in Europe and the second in the world. He described it as a symbol of freedom, democracy, and renewal. In this context, the Ambassador drew particular attention to Ukraine’s ongoing struggle against Russia, emphasizing the threat posed by aggressive Russian imperialism to the security of Europe and the international order.
The Ambassador also addressed Poland’s presidency of the EU Council in the first half of the year as part of the Trio with Denmark and Cyprus, as well as Polish-Cypriot cooperation in areas such as education, science, and local governance.
Representing the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, Minister of Energy Giorgos Papanastasiou spoke about the long-standing friendly relations between Poland and Cyprus, their cooperation within the Trio framework, and Poland’s consistent and supportive stance on the Cyprus issue.
During the evening, the exhibition "Europe We Share" was presented, showcasing the Polish perspective on shared European values, along with video materials promoting Poland’s tourist attractions. The event featured live music by a Polish pianist who performed jazz compositions by Polish and international composers.
Guests were also treated to traditional Polish cuisine.
The celebration was covered in the main evening news broadcast of the nationwide Cypriot television station ANT1.
