Second day of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Poland with Spouse to the Republic of Cyprus

The second day of the President's visit to the Republic of Cyprus began with a meeting with the President of the House of Representatives, Mrs Annita Demetriou.
Then the Presidential Couple was received by the Leader of the Cypriot Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos II. Subsequently, they visited the Catholic Church of the Holy Cross and laid a bouquet of flowers at the bust of St. John Paul II.
From Nicosia, the First Couple of Poland went to Paphos. During the ceremony at the Town Hall, the President of the Republic of Poland received the „Golden Key of the Town” from the Mayor of Paphos, Mr Phedonas Phedonos. Paphos plays a significant role in Polish-Cypriot relations due to the continuous presence of Polish archaeological missions in this area since 1965, headed at present by Professor Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. The President of the Republic of Poland and his wife had the opportunity to get acquainted with the results of the excavations and to meet the team working at the archaeological site.
In the evening the Presidential Couple departed to Warsaw.
It was the second visit of the President of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Cyprus. The previous one took place in 2005, when President Aleksander Kwaśniewski visited Nicosia. In 2021 Poland and Cyprus celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
