“When it comes to cybersecurity in 5G networks, we need all the Member States and EU institutions to work together,” said the Minister of Digital Affairs in Brussels on Monday. During the meeting with Commissioner Breton, Minister Marek Zagórski talked about the implementation of the 5G Toolbox in Poland, as well as other issues.

Together for 5G

Several days ago, the European Commission approved and published the EU Toolbox of risk mitigating measures to ensure cybersecurity of 5G networks.

This document will be the basis for coordinated and joint actions in the EU Member States, aimed at ensuring security of 5G networks. Poland has been implementing EU recommendations for quite a while now.

“Endorsing the 5G Toolbox is a necessary step required to strengthen the European cybersecurity system, since services using 5G networks are going to play an important role in it,” said Marek Zagórski, Minister of Digital Affairs.

During the meeting with the European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, the minister also raised the issue of the creation of a common European data space, which is a key action for introducing artificial intelligence solutions

Data and Industry 4.0

“Our vision in this respect is consistent with that of the European Commission. We need to provide European companies with access to industrial data, as well as data held by public institutions,” the Minister said.

Poland was one of the initiators of the introduction of the concept of free flow of industrial data in the EU. Minister Marek Zagórski stressed that we want the process of releasing data and making it available to European entrepreneurs to continue.

“That is why it is worth creating tools that will serve this purpose. In particular, it is about creating opportunities for growth for small and medium-sized enterprises,” said the Minister. “Our government wants the economy to grow, thanks to effective data management policies and fostering Industry 4.0,” he added.

During the Monday meeting, Commissioner Breton announced that on 19th February the European Commission will present a package of strategies concerning artificial intelligence and the flow of industrial data. The publication of the so-called Digital Services Act is planned for the second half of this year.

User ownership

In the context of the work on the future European regulatory framework for the provision of digital services, Minister Marek Zagórski highlighted the need to ensure that users, not platforms, will own their own personal data.

During his visit to Brussels, he also attended a meeting with the management of Business & Science Poland, to whom showcased the activities of the Ministry of Digital Affairs in the EU, as well as with the management of the Bruegel Institute, during which they talked about cooperation in the area of digital issues.
