Polish Aid - solidarity as a fundament for better future

31.12.2022

Over the last 30 years Poland has experienced significant economic development. Currently Poland takes 21st place in the global economy. Started from very low level of economic performance and structural deficits during communism regime the last three decades has brought Poland into an important place in the global community. Poland shares its achievements via different channels, including active participation in United Nations systems and regional organizations such as the European Union most advanced and prosperous regional integration organisation. One of aims of our intensive participation in global and regional structures of cooperation is to share our experience, best practices and lessons learned.

Poland also has been strongly engaged in development assistance. Last year we allocated nearly 4 bln PLN (800 mln USD) to support development in other countries. As a responsible and sensitive partner within the Central and Eastern Europe most of our resources are allocated in the region, including Ukraine, Georgia and other Eastern European countries. Poland also strongly supports Palestine and some countries in Africa.

Having in mind Russian aggression of Ukraine our eyes and hearts are even closer with our Ukrainian friends. We will support by all means Ukraine facing unapproved, unjustified and illegal aggression.

Poland is also increasingly engaged in the South East Asia. We are very impressed by the development of the region and happy to be here present with the Embassies in six South East Asia countries. Our diplomatic presence here give us possibility to strengthen bilateral relations and contribute to relations of region with the European Union. Being present in the region give us also an opportunity to identify the needs of local communities and implement development projects in that regard. This year Polish Aid  implemented two projects in Indonesia.  The Polish Aid funds were allocated in NTT to support the nutrition-sensitive agriculture training and education for pregnant women and mothers of young children with the aim of stunting prevention. Since public health is now a priority we are happy to contribute in this field.  In Lembata and Adonara we focused on supporting women weavers. Ergonomic weaving tools that reduce the pain the women are experiencing while weaving without altering the traditional weaving technique have been designed and produced. Economic inclusion and empowerment of women is a crucial topic in the global debate on the future of the world and I hope that Poland’s contribution helps to strengthen women's position.

Both these projects were implemented with Kopernik Lab. Mrs Ewa Wojkowska and her team again engaged with full professionalism and engagement. Last but not least Poland would like to contribute to economic development of the South East Asia countries with supporting students exchange. Based on the last pre-covid data Polish government allocated nearly 5 million USD in supporting students from ASEAN countries in studying in Poland. In this year Poland is celebrating 10th anniversary of establishing Ambassador accredited to ASEAN. We hope to enter a new decade of diplomatic partnership with development and education as one of priorities. Polish aid is the way we would like to underline solidarity as a fundamental rule for building better future.

Poland perceives partnership with ASEAN and South East Asian countries as an fundamentally important part of Polish foreign policy. We are extremely glad for close relations with the region and hope to strengthen our cooperation in incoming years.
