Registration is now open for the participants of the tenth edition of the European Remembrance Symposium, an annual event that each year in a different city brings together more than 200 representatives of institutions and organisations active in the field of 20th-century history. Focusing on reconciliation this time around, this year’s symposium will be held in Dublin on 1–3 June. The co-organiser of the tenth-anniversary edition of the event is the Glencree Centre for Peace & Reconciliation, an international hub specialising in conflict resolution and disseminating the notion of lasting peace.

The annual symposium aims at initiating and deepening cooperation between institutions and organisations involved in researching Europe’s 20th-century history. The idea behind the event was and still is the conviction that dialogue concerning events of the last century is needed, taking into account various sensitivities, experiences and existing interpretations.

Over three days, an international group of academics and practitioners from different countries will discuss the importance and role of reconciliation in the context of past and contemporary conflicts – both international and internal. The starting point for the discussion will be the Irish experiences, including those focused on the centenary of the outbreak of the civil war.

Russia’s onslaught on Ukraine will be, too, an important and difficult context for the symposium's debates on the history of reconciliation processes.

So far, panellists and moderators of the Dublin symposium include: Prof. Donald Bloxham, Dr Piotr Cywiński, Prof. Yaroslav Hrytsak, Prof. Monica McWilliams, Prof. Valérie Rosoux and Prof. Peter Shirlow.

The organisers invite representatives of museums and memorial sites, staff of academic and educational institutions, as well as NGOs active in the field of 20th-century history. The three-day meeting will offer the participants an opportunity to attend both discussion panels and networking sessions, during which their institutions and projects can be presented to a wider audience. The event programme also includes visits to museums and memorial sites, including the Glencree Centre for Peace & Reconciliation near Dublin, as well as the exhibition 'After the Great War: a New Europe 1918–1923' displayed in the courtyard of the National Museum of Ireland (Collins Barracks) in Dublin.

The series of European Remembrance Symposia was inaugurated in Gdańsk, Poland, in September 2012 and successive editions have been held in Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Brussels, Bucharest, Paris and Tallinn. The event in Dublin is co-funded by the European Union and Fáilte Ireland.
