On the International Day of the Girl, female ambassadors in Ireland pay tribute to the girls of Ireland and around the world.

09.10.2020

The International Day of the Girl falls on Sunday October 11th. To mark this occasion, 15 female ambassadors posted to Ireland from different countries and continents wish to convey a special message to their younger sisters - the girls of Ireland and around the world.

IDG2020

They do so to give due recognition to the International Day of the Girl, as well as to its main protagonists – young females.

Inspired by their own experiences, they wish to share a message of self-acceptance, self-belief, and self-respect to the women of the future.

The video, addressed to girls age 10-16, opens with this year’s IDG motto ‘My Voice, Our Equal Future’. It concludes with the participating ambassadors sharing photos of their younger selves.

Developed and produced by the Embassy of Poland, the video features the female heads of the diplomatic missions of the following countries: Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cyprus, Finland, Germany, Greece, Nigeria, Palestine, Poland, Romania, South Africa, and Ukraine.

The Ambassador of Poland to Ireland, Ms. Anna Sochańska, said:

This project of ours to celebrate the International Day of the Girl is very close to my heart. At the Embassy, we had been thinking for some time about how best to acknowledge young females on this, the occasion of their (relatively unknown) day. I cannot think of a better message than this video. I am really happy that our call for action received such an overwhelming response from my female colleagues; their support and commitment were vital for this project to succeed. The result is a heartwarming, uplifting, universal video that we hope will find its way to the hearts and minds of girls and young women here in Ireland, but also anywhere else in the world. I wish to repeat the final words of our message, to make it resonate even more with our younger sisters: “Don’t forget - the world is in your hands!”
