Announcement regarding passport matters

18.02.2022

An important announcement in connection with the entry into force of the new Act on passport documents and the change of the IT system for handling passport applications.

Attention

Dear Sirs,

We would like to kindly inform you that due to the entry into force of the new Act on passport documents on March 27th, 2022, the result of which is the implementation of a new IT system in all passport authorities in the country and abroad (embassies, consulates), it will not be possible to apply for biometric passports (with the 5 or 10 years of validity) during the preparatory period on March 22nd-27th, 2022. During this period, it will also not be possible to collect biometric passports.

At the same time, we would like to inform you that in exceptional circumstances it will be possible to obtain a temporary passport (e.g. in the event of theft / loss of document and the need to return to the country of permanent residence).

We kindly ask you for your understanding and taking into account this information when planning the submission of the application for a new passport and the collection of a personalized passport.

At the same time, we kindly inform you that with the implementation of the new system, citizens will benefit from a simplified passport application procedure:

- there will be no need for a citizen to fill in paper application form - the application will be generated in the system by a clerk and then signed by the applicant on the device used for collecting the signature;

- additional services for the citizen will be launched, i.e. verification of the validity of the passport, checking what data is processed in the register. Moreover, the citizen will be able to receive notification, e.g. about the impending expiry date of the passport;

- there will become available additional ways to report the loss of a passport - apart from reporting in person, it will be possible to report the loss of the passport via e-PUAP or e-service (the application will automatically invalidate the lost passport, thus preventing an unauthorized use).
