Poland in Jordan

On Friday morning, June 5, the "Polish" train made a round trip from Amman Central Station to the Al-Qasr substation. The scenic route took passengers over the Ottoman-era Ten Arches Bridge and through the Kingdom’s only 300-meter railway tunnel. Over 150 passengers packed five vintage carriages, proudly waving Polish flags from the windows.

The excursion served a dual purpose: it marked the Middle Eastern chapter of Poland’s Year of Railway Heritage 2026, while locally celebrating Poland's Constitution Day and Children's Day. The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Amman, in partnership with the Jordan Hejaz Railway and Jordan’s Public Security Directorate (PSD).

Welcoming the guests, Chargé d’Affaires Mr. Karol Leśniak highlighted the milestone railway anniversary being celebrated in Poland. He also outlined the historical significance of the Hejaz Railway to the region. Mr. Leśniak drew a parallel to the Polish port city of Gdynia - which also celebrates a major anniversary this year - noting how both landmark engineering feats transformed economic development and trade routes in their respective countries over a century ago.

The event concluded on the historic platforms of Amman's old station with a collective reading of Julian Tuwim’s "The Locomotive". Led by Embassy staff and Dr. Paweł Rogalski, a Polish language lecturer representing NAWA, more than 150 voices - including around forty children - joined in the recitation. As a practical finale, the younger members of the diaspora also participated in a professional first-aid training session.
