Concert of Polish-African music performed by the Ugandan band Happy Kyazze
27.11.2025
The concert program of Happy Kyazze, a renowned Ugandan jazz saxophonist, featured a blend of Polish jazz and folk compositions intertwined with regional African and kizomba music. This first-ever Polish-African fusion concert in Kampala-organized in cooperation with the Kampala Music School-offered a unique opportunity to showcase Polish music to Uganda's political and business leaders as well as members of the diplomatic corps.
The event was also attended by participants of the Polish-Ugandan Mining Sector Conference, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nairobi and the Polish Investment and Trade Agency in collaboration with the Polish Geological Institute.
Happy Kyazze is a versatile multi-instrumentalist and a self-taught saxophonist. In 2007, he began his formal training at the Kampala Music School, where he further developed his trumpet and trombone skills. He later attended the School of Performing Arts at Makerere University, gaining deeper knowledge in music theory and composition. Remarkably, he is a self-taught saxophonist — having taught himself saxophone and drawing inspiration from jazz greats such as Johnny Hodges and Stan Getz.
Over the years, he has collaborated with many leading Ugandan bands and artists, including Qwela Band, Unit 446, the Ebonies, Drumex Band, Daniel Okiror, Rema, Bebe Cool, among others.
