16.04.2025

On 10 April, the EU-Mauritius Partnership Dialogue was held in Ebene, Mauritius. Poland was represented by Ambassador Mirosław Gojdź.

Dialog Partnerski UE-Mauritius

The topics discussed included trade and financial relations, maritime affairs, including security issues in the Indian Ocean, and development and educational cooperation. The EU delegation was led by the EU Ambassador to Mauritius, Oskar Benedikt. The dialogue was accompanied by a number of meetings, including with the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navin Ramgoolam, and with representatives of Mauritian civil society and business.

The event served to highlight the importance of partnership relations with Mauritius. This small country belonging to SIDS (Small Island Developing States) is an important centre for financial and tourist services and has strategic significance for security in the Indian Ocean basin. In addition, it consistently opposes Russian aggression against Ukraine in the United Nations. The EU also remains Mauritius' largest trading partner.

On the occasion of the Dialogue and the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, the Embassy of Poland in cooperation with the EU Delegation organized a piano concert performed by pianist Przemysław Lechowski, who presented a selection of Fryderyk Chopin's works in the setting of the historic Château de Labourdonnais. The concert gathered about 90 guests, including representatives of the diplomatic corps, local administration and the Polish diaspora. During his stay in Mauritius, Mr. Lechowski also gave a piano lesson to students of the Conservatoire de Musique François Mitterrand.
