Poland in Kenya

On 11 November 1918, 102 years ago, Poland regained its independence. On this day, after his release from the Magdeburg Fortress, Józef Piłsudski took over military command from the Regency Council and, three days later, assumed supreme authority over civilian matters, to finally “as Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army [...] notify belligerent and neutral governments and nations” of the reappearance of “the reborn and independent Republic of Poland” on the map. After 123 years of captivity, Poland became a sovereign and internationally recognised state.

We kindly inform you that on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nairobi and its Consular Section will be closed due to public holiday observed in the Republic of Poland (National Independence Day).

On November 3, 2020 in Mogadishu, Ambassador Jacek Bazański presented his credentials to the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed.

The MFA organised a series of expert panels and an information and promotional campaign under the slogan “UN Week” to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations Organisation.

In his lifetime, John Paul II was often reproached for having his eyes fixed on the past, for not understanding the present and for not keeping up with the world. Admittedly, his role in the communism overthrowing was widely recognised, but it was also believed that he was unable to find his place in the world of democracy and pluralism, in the global market of ideas where the Catholic Church must seek attention of people on an equal footing with others.

On Wednesday, 26 August 2020, Prof. Zbigniew Rau received the appointment from the hands of the President of Poland Andrzej Duda. At the MFA headquarters, the previous Foreign Minister Prof. Jacek Czaputowicz ceremonially handed over the office to his successor.
