Poland in Kenya

We kindly inform you that on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nairobi and its Consular Section will be closed due to public holiday observed in the Republic of Kenya (Mashujaa Day).

In his lifetime, John Paul II was often reproached for having his eyes fixed on the past, for not understanding the present and for not keeping up with the world. Admittedly, his role in the communism overthrowing was widely recognised, but it was also believed that he was unable to find his place in the world of democracy and pluralism, in the global market of ideas where the Catholic Church must seek attention of people on an equal footing with others.

On Wednesday, 26 August 2020, Prof. Zbigniew Rau received the appointment from the hands of the President of Poland Andrzej Duda. At the MFA headquarters, the previous Foreign Minister Prof. Jacek Czaputowicz ceremonially handed over the office to his successor.

Poland (and the other member countries of the Visegrad Group) is helping plant a million cashew nut trees and sesame seeds at the Kenyan coast to boost agriculture and help residents hard-hit by the coronavirus to weather the storm. Poland’s Ambassador to Kenya Jacek Bazański also said in an interview that Polish tourists love to visit Kenya but the country needs to market its destination better to attract more Polish citizens. The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nairobi is pleased to share the results of the 2020 call for applications under the Polish Aid Small Grants Programme. Four projects, amouting to 80 000 euros in total, were selected among 42 applications received.

Somali non-governmental organisation the Elman Peace and Human Rights Centre (EPHRC) has been awarded the Pro Dignitate Humana 2020 prize. One of the organisation’s most important achievements is successfully counteracting radicalisation and brutal religious extremism.
