16.12.2025

In December 2025, two key meetings took place at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi: the 7th meeting of the Open-ended Committee of Permanent Representatives (OECPR-7) from 1-5 December 2025, followed by the 7th session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) from 8-12 December 2025.

UNEA is the world’s highest decision-making body on the environment, comprising all 193 UN Member States. UNEA-7 was chaired by the President of UNEA-7, Abdullah Bin Ali Al-Amri (Oman), and its overarching theme was “Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet”.

UNEA-7 brought together broad international participation: over 6,000 participants were registered, representing more than 170 countries, including 79 ministers. UNEA-7 convened delegations of UN Member States, representatives of UN system organs and agencies, secretariats of multilateral environmental agreements, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, Major Groups, and other stakeholders. The most important parts of the programme were the high-level segment, plenary meetings and the work of the Committee of the Whole (including negotiations on resolutions, decisions and the ministerial declaration). Numerous side events took place in parallel. The Assembly concluded with the adoption of a package of 11 resolutions (out of 15 initially negotiated), 3 decisions concerning the functioning of UNEP and the work of UNEA, as well as a Ministerial Declaration. The adopted resolutions cover both the traditional areas of the environmental agenda and new issues for UNEP, and concern, inter alia: sustainable artificial intelligence; minerals and metals; chemicals and waste; as well as increasing youth participation in environmental processes and environmental education. During UNEA-7, the Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7) was also launched—the latest comprehensive UN scientific report on the state of the global environment.

Poland was represented at both OECPR-7 and UNEA-7 by a delegation composed of Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nairobi representatives: Ambassador Mirosław Gojdź and Weronika Mincewicz-Podrecka, Second Secretary for Political and UN Affairs. The delegation took part in high-level events, plenary sessions, negotiations, EU coordination meetings and side events. As part of the high-level segment, Ambassador Mirosław Gojdź delivered Poland’s national statement.
