Poland in Lebanon

The ceremony, which was part of official celebrations marking the 105th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw and Polish Armed Forces Day, began with the entry of the Standard-Bearer and the Honour Guard. The Polish national flag was solemnly raised, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the Representative Song of the Polish Armed Forces. Guests were welcomed by the Commander of the 11th rotation of the Polish Military Contingent in Lebanon, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Sałagan.

The Polish Military Contingent has participated in the UN peacekeeping mission UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon)for many years. The first period running from 1992 to 2009, and then since November 2019 it has once again been deployed as the Polish Military Contingent in the Republic of Lebanon. Among the tasks carried out by Polish soldiers are those related to monitoring the ceasefire, supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces in maintaining stability and ensuring the safety of the civilian population. The contingent numbers up to 250 soldiers stationed at Shamrock Base, working closely with Irish and Hungarian troops.

The presence of the Polish Military Contingent in Lebanon constitutes an important contribution by Poland to international efforts for peace and security in the Middle East and continues the long-standing tradition of Polish involvement in peacekeeping operations under the auspices of the United Nations.
