Discussion on the Situations faced by Women in Lebanon

10.01.2026

Women's issues in Lebanon were at the forefront of a meeting organized jointly with the Melkite Committee for Women and hosted at the residence of the Polish Ambassador. Prominent Lebanese women from the fields of politics, culture, and the media, along with members of parliament, diplomats, and representatives of international organizations (including UN Women) and church organizations operating in Lebanon all contributed to a heated discussion.

The main goal of the meeting was to discuss specific problems and challenges facing the Melkite community, as well as to facilitate a broader discussion on women's issues in Lebanon in various contexts – political, legal, social, and religious. The participants included female parliamentarians who presented their perspectives on local politics – currently, there are only eight women in the Lebanese government.

Guests were treated to a presentation on the history of the Melkite community in Lebanon, which served as a starting point for discussions on specific topics (underage marriage, women's access to education, and others). Participants gladly exchanged experiences and views on how to address local issues related to these topics.

The meeting was accompanied by the exhibition "Outstanding Polish Women" and a musical performance (including Chopin songs) by the Lebanese soprano Nadine Nassar.
