09.09.2026

On the 9th of September 2026 the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Beirut organized an outdoor event to promote the presence of Polish traces and contribution to the development of railways in Lebanon.

Exhibition and film screening on Polish locomotives in Baabda

The main subject of the event was the presence of Polish SU-45 locomotives in Lebanon, which were still in use on the Lebanese railway network up until the 1990s. During the event, a photographic exhibition "Polish Traces on the Lebanese Railway" by Adam Styp-Rekowski was opened, including 30 photographs documenting former Lebanese railway stations and stations, as well as traces of former railway lines. The Embassy also organized the premiere screening of the film "Praise from Beirut" by Polish director Michał Bis, describing the history of Polish SU-45 locomotives in Lebanon. Attendees also had the chance to greet and talk to the Polish director, who came personally to Lebanon for the screening of the film.

The event, organized in cooperation with the Baabda Municipality and the General Directorate of Railways and Public Transport of the Republic of Lebanon, attracted a large group of railway enthusiasts. The exhibition and the screening of the film provided a great opportunity to exchange views and strengthen cooperation with local partners, the Baabda Municipality, the diplomatic corps, representatives of the cultural world, as well as with local organizations such as Terre du Liban and Train Train Lebanon. About 100 people attended the event. To raise visibility, the photo exhibition will be on display at Baabda Railway Station until the 14th of October this year.
