06.08.2026
On 6-10 July this year, representatives of the Association of Farmers and Beekeepers of Lebanon visited Poland to see how things are done there. During the study visit the delegation held numerous meetings with Polish scientific centres looking at beekeeping and bee protection and visited Polish apiaries and beekeeping education centres.
The primary aim of the study visit was to hold scientific and research meetings and to draw on the experience of Polish beekeepers in order to improve beekeeping activities in Lebanon, with the additional goal of presenting the rich Polish beekeeping tradition. From the Lebanese perspective, the most important aspect of the visit was to become familiar with Polish experience in beekeeping and to take advantage of scientific knowledge in the field of queen bee breeding and artificial insemination, health and diagnosis of bee diseases, apiary management, bee product analysis and vocational training.
During their stay in Poland, Lebanese beekeepers visited the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, where workshops took place with Dr. Anna Gajda from the Department of Veterinary Pathology and Diagnostics of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in bee health and diseases. Dr. Jakub Gąbka, who also participated, devoted a meeting to explaining the techniques of artificial insemination of queen bees. Lebanese beekeepers were able to visit the university apiary and learn how it is used for educational and practical purposes.
After the University, the delegation travelled to Puławy, where the program included a meeting with Professor Małgorzata Bieńkowska, with whom the beekeepers exchanged knowledge and experience regarding beekeeping, queen bee breeding and related techniques. This was followed by a visit to the research centre where the Lebanese were able to see and handle the specialized apparatus and laboratory equipment used in beekeeping, bee products and related fields. The next day included a trip to Lublin, where the delegation visited the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin, where they met Dr. Marcin Sudziński and visited the apiary located on the roof of the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures.
The programme ended with a visit to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, where the Lebanese delegation met with Mr. Tadeusz Woźniak, MP and member of the Polish-Lebanese Parliamentary Friendship Group. The delegates told Mr Wożniak about the current situation facing the Lebanese beekeeping sector and informed him about the damage suffered by beekeepers and apiaries as a result of the most recent war in Lebanon in the spring of this year.
