Maria Skłodowska-Curie's Birthday in Beirut

On the 7th November, 2025, on the 158th anniversary of the Polish Nobel Prize winner's birth, a lecture on Maria Skłodowska-Curie was held at the American University of Beirut.
The presentation was delivered by Polish Ambassador Dr Aleksandra Bukowska-McCabe and Pierre Anhoury, advisor to the Lebanese Minister of Health on behalf of the French government and the Director of International Relations at the Institut Curie in Paris.
The audience were given a comprehensive insight into Maria Skłodowska-Curie's life, learning not only of her scientific achievements but also her interests, family life, the background to her Nobel Prize successes, her social involvement and contributions during World War I, as well as the political and social conditions in partitioned Poland. Ambassador Bukowska-McCabe gave particular emphasis to the pioneering work and Polish themes surrounding Skłodowska-Curie.
The lecture proved to be highly popular, not just with those who had made the trip to the American University of Beirut but also the numerous participants who took advantage of the live online broadcast to join from across the globe.
