Poland in Lebanon

On May 5, 2026, a ceremonial gathering was held at the residence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Beirut, bringing together representatives of the Polish diaspora and Poles living abroad. The event was organized to celebrate three occasions: Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad Day, the Constitution Day of May 3rd, and the National Flag Day of the Republic of Poland.

The event was attended by representatives of Polish community organizations, as well as invited guests, including representatives of the Saint Charbel Phoenicia Foundation and the Wolne Miejsce Foundation. The presence of these organizations highlighted the growing importance of social and humanitarian cooperation in the region.

The ceremony was opened by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, who in her address emphasized the special character of the gathering — both in terms of its venue and its symbolism. She noted that the embassy serves not only as a state institution, but also as a space for building and strengthening ties between Poland and its citizens living abroad.

In her address, the Consul of the Republic of Poland highlighted the significance of the three celebrated occasions as pillars of national identity: community (Polish Diaspora Day), historical heritage (the Constitution of May 3rd), and national symbolism (National Flag Day). She expressed gratitude to the Polish diaspora for preserving the Polish language, culture, and traditions, and for serving as "silent ambassadors" of Poland around the world.

A key element of the address was also the emphasis that Polish identity is not merely a matter of origin, but a conscious choice and daily commitment to maintaining ties with the homeland. The gathering provided an opportunity to further strengthen interpersonal and intergenerational bonds within the Polish community.

During the event, special thanks were extended to a Polish language teacher — a volunteer who dedicates herself to running two groups of children learning Polish. Her significant contribution to preserving Polish identity among the youngest generation and to building connections with Polish culture and language was duly acknowledged. Humanitarian initiatives were also presented. The Wolne Miejsce Foundation announced the upcoming launch, with the support of the Embassy, of a food aid project for people displaced as a result of the armed conflict in Lebanon, which was met with great interest and appreciation from the attendees.

The ceremony was accompanied by a piano recital of Chopin's music performed by Polish artist and lecturer Ms. Katia Nahle, which served as an important cultural highlight of the event and further underscored the presence of Polish culture in Beirut's international community.

The gathering took place in a solemn yet warm atmosphere, conducive to the integration of the Polish diaspora and the exchange of experiences. The event reaffirmed the vital role of diplomatic missions in maintaining ties with Poles abroad and supporting social and cultural initiatives.
