Visit of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland to Lebanon

From the 23rd to the 29th of August this year, the Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister W. Zajączkowski, paid an official visit to Lebanon. During his stay in Beirut, the Minister met with representatives of the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the Political Director, the Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Lebanese Parliament, as well as the Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister.
During the meetings, the development of the current political situation in Lebanon, including in the south of the country, the status of current proposals once UNIFIL concludes its mission, and the position of the LB government towards peace talks and bilateral relations were discussed. As part of the political agenda, meetings were also held with Lebanese think-tanks and analysts, including former Min. Nasif Hitti, former advisor to the President of Lebanon, and representatives of Carnegie Middle East, Civic Influence Hub and the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue.
As part of their visit to Lebanon, the delegation, headed by Minister W. Zajączkowski, visited development and humanitarian projects implemented with funds of the Polish Aid programme and independently by Polish organisations, including the Lebanese Civil Defense unit in Burj Barajneh supported by PCPM, the Hôpital de la Croix – the largest psychiatric hospital in Lebanon, as well as projects implemented in Ayaltoun by the Good Factory Foundation and The Adventure of Charity. The Minister also met with UNHCR representatives, with whom they discussed the current humanitarian and refugee situation in Lebanon, including the consequences of the displacement of over a million people as a result of the escalation of the conflict in 2026.
A separate meeting with the leadership of the Lebanese Red Cross was devoted to Polish support for the organization, including the allocation of funds amounting to 2 million PLN provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland in March this year in response to the appeal of the Prime Minister of Lebanon to increase international humanitarian aid. It was also pointed out that the Lebanese Red Cross receives direct support from the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Beirut through the Polish Aid program, including the purchase and donation of medicines for the needs of its medical and humanitarian activities.
There was also a symbolic visit to the Polish War Cemetery, including the laying of a wreath and lighting candles on the graves of Polish soldiers who have been laid to rest on Lebanese soil.
