Visit of the Polish-Lebanese Parliamentary Friendship Group

In November, Mr. J. Krajewski, Mrs. E. Kołodziej and  Mr. P. Kukiz came to Lebanon as a delegation from the Polish parliament on a working visit with a packed and broad programme of political meetings, expert consultations, and site visits to projects co-financed by Polish Aid. In Beirut, the delegation held talks at the Lebanese Parliament, including with the Chairman and representatives of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Polish-Lebanese Friendship Group. During the meetings, current regional challenges, prospects for developing parliamentary cooperation, and initiatives supporting women's participation in public life were discussed. As part of the cultural program, the delegation visited Byblos, one of the region's oldest cities, learning about its history and heritage.

A key element of the visit was learning about projects implemented under Polish Aid. The delegation visited projects related to environmental protection and the development of renewable energy, including mountainous land reclamation efforts and photovoltaic installations supporting the operation of schools and health centres. During the discussions, the importance of cooperation with local partners and the long-term benefits of implemented solutions were emphasized. The parliamentarians also underlined that Lebanon should remain a priority for Polish development assistance in the coming years.

The visit programme also included a meeting with representatives of the Polish diaspora working in international and humanitarian organizations, providing an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss the involvement of Poles in activities for the region.

The delegation also visited the Polish Military Contingent of UNIFIL in southern Lebanon, where they learned about the mission's activities, structure, and tasks related to ensuring security in the operational zone. Meetings with soldiers allowed them to hear their experiences, assess the challenges facing the contingent, and raise questions regarding the possible continuation of its presence under a different mandate.
