2nd Polish Corps will strengthen the defense capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces

21.07.2023

„Today we witnessed an important event. I gave an appointment to General Joks as commander of the 2nd Corps of the Polish Land Forces Command. This Corps will be established to strengthen interoperability with the United States and to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Polish Military. My goal is to make use of the experience that General Joks has acquired while he was deputy commander of the US Army V Corps. We are proud that the advanced element of the V Corps command is in Poland. Based on the decision of President Joe Biden, it is permanently in Poland, so not temporarily, but permanently. It is the U.S. Army V Corps that commands U.S. forces on the entire eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance" said Mariusz Blaszczak, Minister of National Defense at the training ground in Nadarzyce.

On Friday, July 21, the head of the Ministry of Defense observed US-Polish flight training at the 21st Central Air Field. During the training, the minister appointed Major General Adam Joks as commander of the Polish Land Forces Corps.

We are really satisfied that American soldiers are in Poland, that they are practicing with Polish soldiers, that they are using this training ground here in Nadarzyce to improve skills, to build interoperability with the Polish Armed Forces. We will equip the Polish Armed Forces with 96 such helicopters. Even before the contract is executed, we will ensure that the Polish Military will use 8 such helicopters lent to us by the US Army, that is, by the US ground forces

- said the head of the Ministry of Defense after the conclusion of joint Polish-American exercises.

Polish-American relations have a key impact on NATO's security system, especially its eastern flank. Located in Poland, Armored Brigade Combat Group subunits and supporting elements, including the Combat Aviation Brigade, the installation of a missile defense system under construction in Redzików, equipment and ammunition storage facilities under construction in Powidz, or the establishment of the US Army's V Corps advanced command in Poznań are just some examples of the durability of transatlantic alliance ties.

Speaking of strengthening and modernizing the Polish Armed Forces, the head of the Ministry of Defense noted that this is an extremely important investment in the security of Polish women and men today.

Our goal is to build up the Polish Armed Forces so strong that Poland will not be attacked by the Russians, to deter Russia. We will lead to the point where Abrams and Apaches will close the Brest gate. They will lead to just such a situation in which this direction of a potential attack on Poland will be impossible due to the strong presence of the Polish Armed Forces cooperating with the US military

- Minister M. Blaszczak said.

The head of the Ministry of Defense, during a visit to the training ground in Nadarzyce, announced that Polish pilots will begin training on Apache helicopters in early August.

Thank you again to everyone who participated in the exercise today. I was impressed by the skills of American pilots and the capabilities of American equipment, Apache helicopters. These are indeed very modern weapons, and I assure you that we will bring the Polish Army to have Apaches very soon. Very soon, in early August, the first Polish pilots will begin training on these very helicopters. Immediately after the end of the training, these first 8 machines will be transferred to the equipment of the Polish Armed Forces. So we are using the time as much as possible to strengthen the Polish Military

- Minister M. Blaszczak noted.
