Canada is a reliable friend and ally of Poland. Our countries have a long history of cooperation. Canada was the first country to support Poland's NATO membership. (...) Today, we work together to support Ukraine and to strengthen security on NATO's eastern flank" Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said after meeting with Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand.

On May 8, the head of the Ministry of Defense, during a visit to Canada, met with Minister A. Anand in Ottawa.

"I wish to thank Minister Anand for her support in favor of Ukraine, especially for her clear stance when it comes to the supply of Leopards. Your decision to hand over this equipment made other countries decide to follow the example by forming a tank coalition."

- the head of the Polish defense ministry said at a press conference.

Commenting the situation on NATO's eastern flank and the threat to the security of Europe in particular from Russia's attack on Ukraine, the head of the Ministry of Defense noted the importance of solidarity and unity among allies at this time.

"Canada's involvement in helping Ukraine and in bilateral and alliance cooperation proves that Canada is a reliable friend and ally of Poland. We work with each other to support the security of Europe."

- Deputy Prime Minister M. Blaszczak said.

Minister Anand informed that Canada has provided substantial aid to Ukraine, and that there are currently 80 Canadian military personnel in Poland who are training Ukrainian soldiers - sappers, tank crews. They also provide training in battlefield medical first aid.

"We can offer these skills in large part because Poland was willing to help"

- Minister Anand said.

After the talks, the defense ministers of Poland and Canada laid wreaths in front of a monument commemorating, among others, the victims of World War I and World War II, - The National War Memorial.

Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Blaszczak met with members of the Standing Committee on National Defense and Deputy Prime Minister Ch. Freeland.

On May 7 in Toronto, the head of the Ministry of Defense took part in the ceremony of raising the flag at Nathan Phillips Square and in the parade commemorating the enactment of the 3 May Constitution. The Deputy Prime Minister also laid a wreath at the Katyn Monument and in front of the Smolensk and Siberian Plaques
