Deputy Prime Minister W. Kosiniak - Kamysz: Peace needs the strength of our E5 Group, NATO and the EU.

16.05.2025

The strategy of our countries is a strategy for peace. It is a partnership for peace. We do not want war in any shape or form. All the efforts that we are undertaking - increased defence spending, aid for Ukraine, integrating our operational capabilities, shared excercises, increasing our potential - are done to maintain peace. Peace cannot defend itself, which is why we need our strength. The strength of our E5 Group, NATO and the EU - deputy prime minister Władysław Kosiniak - Kamysz said after the meeting of the E5 Group countries defence ministers.

The meeting of the European Group of Defence Ministers took place on May 16, 2025 in Rome. Defence ministers from France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Great Britain attended. Dialogue within the E5 framework (i.e. Poland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy) is an important part of the common efforts to bolster European security, supplements NATO and EU relations and enables coordinated actions.

- Peace cannot defend itself, which is why we need our strength. The strength of all five of us, NATO and the EU. I will Begin with a strategic issue that can ensure transatlantic security. This is further support for Ukraine, this is a strong, independent and democratic Ukraine that looks to the West and will never turn its eyes towards Moscow

- said the deputy prime minister.

- It is good that the European Union sees the need and begins a new strategy for expenses for the arms industry, defence, security, protecting our borders, safeguarding the eastern flank of NATO and the European Union. The increased involvement of the European Union is not done against NATO. It is done so the national forces can be stronger, and through that the capabilities of the Alliance will be greater. The stronger the European Union, the stronger NATO is. Therefore this is not a contradiction, conflict, expense. This is an opportunity for unified action. We are also in favour of cooperation between the European Union and the United Kingdom being as close as possible, so that we can work on military projects together with our partners outside the EU

- stressed the minister of defence.

The summit in Rome was the fourth meeting of the „E5 Group” after the meetings in Berlin (25 November, 2024), Warsaw (13 January, 2025) and Paris (12 March, 2025).
