Heroes in uniforms honored

“Today I have had the honor to recognize soldiers who had showed courage and bravery in saving the lives of others. I do highly appreciate your efforts. Thank you for your comittment. For not passing by when you see someone needing help. This is the essence of military service. Military service is not a job, it is a life attitude, it will guard the security of our homeland, but also help to all those who need such help. Congratulations to all the honored, and thank you all soldiers of the Polish Army for their daily service, ”said Mariusz Błaszczak, Minister of National Defense during a meeting with soldiers in Warsaw.

On Saturday, August the 14th , on the occasion of the upcoming Polish Army Day and the 101st anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw, Minister Mariusz Błaszczak awarded the soldiers with awards and medals - the Armed Forces in the Homeland Service and for Merits for the National Defense.

The Minister also distinguished soldiers with Honorary Swords of the Armed Forces and an entry in the Honorary Book of the Polish Army. The meeting was also an opportunity to honor 20 soldiers of the Polish Army who, apart from military service, saved someone's life, health and property in their leisure time. Among the distinguished persons,there were soldiers of the 12th UAV Base, 1st Airlift Base ,Land Forces Training Center and Territorial Defense Forces.

Four military units: the 2nd Territorial Defense Brigade, the 15th Sieradzka Command Support Brigade, the 21st Podhale Riflemen Brigade, and the Mazovian Military Police Department received the honorary title of "Outstanding Unit of the Polish Army".

Minister Blaszczak, congratulating all the distinguished, addressed special words of thanks to the soldiers who supported the national health service in the fight against coronavirus. “We could see the service attitude especially during the epidemic, when the soldiers of the Polish Army were everywhere where they were needed. I think that no one who was in a hospital at that time, in any hospital in Poland, could overlook the soldiers of the Polish Army, who helped and relieved civilian health care workers in this way, so that civilian health care workers could fully devote themselves to the duties related to the patient care. Thank you for such an attitude, said Minister Blaszczak.

The head of the Ministry of National Defense posthumously appointed to the first officer rank - second lieutenant late Tadeusz Przewoźnik and the late Tadeusz Radwański. Officers were also posthumously awarded with Crosses with Swords of the Order of the Cross of Independence. “Today I also have had the honor and honor of handing over officer patents to the relatives of two steadfast soldiers. Thank you very much that I had the opportunity to meet the relatives gentlemen, from today posthumously appointed by the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Andrzej Duda, to the officer rank of second lieutenants of the Polish Army. Thank you that I had the opportunity to hand over the officer's patent to the relatives of the late Mr. Lieutenant Tadeusz Przewoźnik and Mr. Lieutenant Tadeusz Radwański. The fates of these two soldiers are very similar. (...) Both, as young people, fought for Poland's freedom for themselves and for future generations. They showed heroism and bravery. They were faithful to the oath they made to Poland. They constitute a pattern to follow for today's soldiers of the Polish Army "- said the head of the Ministry of National Defense during the ceremony.

Before the ceremony, the head of the Ministry of National Defense, together with the commanders and the management of the Ministry, also laid a wreath in front of the monument to Marshal Józef Piłsudski, which is located at the Belweder Palace. The minister also laid flowers in front of the commemorative plaques located on the premises of the Ministry of National Defense complex, which commemorate the victims of the Smolensk plane crash.
