"I am greatly pleased with the Italian ministry's decision to have an Italian missile destroyer with powerful anti-aircraft and anti-missile weaponry arrive in Poland soon, which will strengthen the air defense of the Polish coast. On Wednesday, May 17, Deputy Prime Minister M. Blaszczak paid a visit to Italy, where he met with Guido Crosetto, Minister of Defense of the Italian Republic.

"We are in fact working very closely with the Italian partner. Italian soldiers in Latvia are serving side by side with Polish soldiers as part of NATO's eFP. Polish soldiers within the EU program are serving on Sicily, so this cooperation is excellent. Last year, Italian F-35s were in Poland, and this year we can expect that as well. This is the dimension of our cooperation,"

- Mariusz Blaszczak, Minister of National Defense, said after a meeting with the head of the Italian Defense Ministry.

The issues of the ministers' bilateral talks included military relations, including matter of the Polish Armed Forces' modernization, and the current security situation in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and assistance to that country. The defense ministry heads also discussed the agenda for the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius.

"We also talked of the fact that the AW-149s coming from Swidnik will already be on the equipment of the Polish Armed Forces as early as this year. This is also the result of our joint talks"

- the head of the Polish Defense Ministry stated

During his visit to the Vatican, the head of the Ministry of Defense laid flowers at the tomb of St. John Paul II. The Polish delegation took part in a Holy Mass for peace in the world, which was celebrated in the Polish Chapel in St. Peter's Basilica. Poland and Italy have been cooperating on many levels and in military areas for many years. Both countries mutually deploy their soldiers to serve in NATO structures deployed in Poland and Italy. Polish and Italian soldiers interact within the framework of the NATO battalion battle group in Latvia, as well as on the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon.

The Polish Armed Forces are deploying a military contingent operating in the Mediterranean Sea, located on Sicily, as part of the EUNAVFOR MED IRINI military crisis management operation. The mission involves the prevention of illegal arms and human trafficking, which is one of the elements of EU border protection.

Polish-Italian cooperation is also developing in the area of arms industries and in the framework of PESCO projects.
