The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo and the Minister of National Defence, Mariusz Błaszczak signed an agreement on defense cooperation, on August 15th . The signing ceremony took place in Warsaw in the Presidential Palace in the presence of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda.

- The agreement signed today by me and the Secretary Pompeo is the crowning of our joint efforts and the end of the most important stage related to the enhancement of presence of the US Armed Forces in Poland. Not only we implement, but also develop arrangements for strengthening defense cooperation between Poland and the USA, established in recent years – said minister Mariusz Błaszczak after the ceremony.

The agreement regulates, among other things, a scope of logistic support as well as the use of facilities and areas by the US forces deployed in Poland. The EDCA also states that Poland will host the forward elements of the U.S. Army’s V Corps Headquarters.

- We are assured that the infrastructure allows to accommodate up to 20,000 American soldiers. Then, of course, if it will be necessary. (...) The agreement ensures security to Poland and this is a priority benefit. It also has the economic advantage. For our soldiers it creates a possibility to further improve our mutual military cooperation. We are stronger together - emphasized minister Mariusz Błaszczak.

- We have created a legal framework for the permanent presence of the US Armed Forces in Poland, both in the currently planned scope and in the possible further extension; as discussed, inter alia, by Mark Esper, the US Secretary of Defense. It means that the agreement signed today opens the possibility to enhance the presence of US troops in Poland, and also to organize much more US military exercises in our country. (…) I have the feeling of a well accomplished mission, because the permanent presence of US troops in our country, together with the balanced and consistent technical modernization of the Armed Forces and the constant increase of the army size, create a complex system that ensures our security  – expressed minister Mariusz Błaszczak.
