Partnership for security: Poland and Norway for regional stability

13.04.2026

- Polish-Norwegian relations have never been as good as they are today - they are of the highest quality. It is already a strategic partnership. We have been discussing key issues for the security of eastern and northern flanks. We have been talking about challenges tied to the threat from the Russian Federation, its neo-imperial policy, and all that we face because of the ongoing hybrid war. For a number of years, Poland has been facing attacks on critical infrastructure, airspace violations and incidents on the Baltic. I thank the Minister for joining our strategy to build new security architecture on the Baltic Sea - said the Deputy Prime Minister during a visit to Norway.

POL- NO

On Monday, 13 April 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak Kamysz has met in Oslo with Tore O. Sandvikiem, the Minister of Defence of Norway.

- Norway has a lot of experience in operating its Navy, reconnaissance and the use of satellites. This is very useful for the whole Alliance – both in the context of activities on the northern flank, and engaging in building security of the Baltic Sea. Disinformation, sabotage – all that is affecting our countries. Airspace violations concern every country on the eastern flank, indeed – all NATO countries at this point. Last year, Copenhagen has been repeatedly endangered by drones, which threatened air traffic. The answer to those threats must be a collective one

- said the Minister of National Defence.

The relations of Poland and Norway in the area of security are strategic, and are based on cooperation within NATO, as well as the growing importance of bilateral initiatives in defence and security. Both countries see the stability of the Baltic Sea region as a key element of the European system of security, which translates into intensifying joint military exercises, exchange of experiences and coordinating activities when faced with new threats, such as cyberattacks or destabilizing critical infrastructure. An important pillar of this cooperation is the development of partnership in military modernization or the cooperation of defence industries in key armament programmes.

- Poland and Norway do much for security. I would like to thank the whole Norway – all its citizens – and especially the Minister, for sending the F-35 fighters and the NASAMS systems to defend the Polish skies, including the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport, which plays a key role in transferring equipment and humanitarian aid to embattled Ukraine. These are key capabilities. We have talked today about increasing our skills, joint training and interoperability – so that the F-35 system works seamlessly across all allied countries in Europe. The cooperation in this field between Poland and Norway will be enhanced.

- noted the Minister of National Defence

- We can already point to concrete results. The SAN programme – encompassing anti-air, anti-missile and anti-drone defences – answers the most important modern challenges. These are expensive, but absolutely critical capabilities, especially in the field of drone warfare. Together with our Norwegian partner, Kongsberg, and Polish firms – PGZ and APS – we have created a consortium building anti-drone system on a scale previously unknown in Europe. It includes sensors, command systems and kinetic effectors, as well as electronic warfare capabilities. We want for it to become a product meant for export and a symbol of our cooperation – defending borders, critical infrastructure and airports. This undertaking is key not only for the defence of our countries, but also developing the capabilities of the entire NATO and the European Union. We need accelerated investments in the defence industry. We have also discussed space capabilities, reconnaissance, the naval, air and cyber domains. Last year, Poland signed a strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Norway in the field of cybersecurity. We cooperate well across all domains. (…). Norway is a true ally and a true friend.

- stressed the Deputy Prime Minister after meeting the Minister of Defence of Norway.
