PMC Latvia

The decision to launch the enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) was made during the NATO Summit in Warsaw in 2016. The deployment of multinational battle groups to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland was aimed at increasing the defense and deterrence potential of NATO in the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance.

While being a host nation for the US-led battle group in Poland, we also send our contingents to Latvia (eFP) and Romania (tFP).

With its presence in Latvia, Poland confirms its solidarity and determination in building a common Allied defense and deterrence potential.

The multinational battle group formed by Canada includes units from Albania, Italy, Poland, Slovenia and Spain. In total, more than 1,000 soldiers are stationed in Latvia under the NATO flag.
PMC Latvia is operationally subordinated to the Canadian commander of the battle group and through NATOs chain of command responds to the Multinational Division North-East located in Elbląg, Multinational Corps North-East located in Szczecin and further to the Joint Force Command HQ in Brunssum (The Netherlands) which is responsible for the entire eFP deployment.
In the national chain of command the PMC reports to the Minister of National Defence, through the Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces.
