On Wednesday, as part of Polish-Spanish intergovernmental consultations, the chiefs of defence of Poland Mariusz Błaszczak and Spain's Margarit Robles met in Warsaw to discuss mutual cooperation regarding the security and defence of both countries. An important point of the meeting was the signing of the "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Defence of Poland and Spain".

The talks focused on Polish-Spanish cooperation within NATO, in particular related to the strengthening of the Eastern flank of the Alliance. The security situation in the context of Russia's aggression against Ukraine was also a leading topic.

The ministers also discussed the implementation of the provisions of the NATO summit in Madrid, which took place at a key moment for transatlantic security, during the greatest crisis since World War II, caused by Russia's unprovoked attack on Ukraine. It was during the summit that the Strategic Concept was adopted. The document points to NATO's key goals and tasks in the light of the increasingly dangerous and unpredictable geopolitical situation. The concept outlines a new policy towards Russia and confirms the determination to defend each ally.

The topics also included issues related to cooperation in the EU dimension, i.e. the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) and new forms of cooperation in the field of defence.
