Polish-Czech partnership for regional security
24.06.2026
- Our meeting today was a preparation for two events: tomorrow's conference of the Ministers of Defence of the V4 Group in Budapest and the NATO Summit that will take place in Ankara in two weeks. But first and foremost I would like to thank the Czech Republic, the Minister and the Czech Armed Forces for sending a hundred soldiers, as well as attack helicopters, to bolster the defence of the Polish border as part of the NATO operation established after the drone attack on Poland. Together, we are responsible for security on the eastern flank of NATO. The Czech Republic understands and remembers this very well. The involvement, dedication and prolongation of this mission was a personal decision of the Minister, for which I am sincerely thankful. It is an honour to work together in the North Atlantic Alliance - said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has met with the Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic Jaromír Zůna on 24 June 2026 in the Ministry of National Defence in Warsaw.
- We have discussed our shared responsibility, the presence of Czech soldiers not only on the eastern flank but also in the command structures in Elbląg and Szczecin, in the Multinational Corps Northeast and the Multinational Division Northeast, as well as the Baltic countries. We often perform the Air Policing mission together. We’re stationed and defend our neighbours by the Baltic Sea. This all means that Polish-Czech relations are the best they’ve ever been, especially on the military and economic level. (…). Lastly, we have discussed the defence industry. The Czech Republic has a very well-developed defence industry. It exports most of the military equipment produced there – from new technologies to traditional heavy equipment. We have agreed to a cooperation, an understanding between Polish and Czech firms, to developing joint venture initiatives and shared projects.
- noted Deputy Prime Minister W. Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The Minister of National Defence emphasized that developing the cooperation between Air Forces and exchanging experiences in the matter of using the F-35 aircraft were among the topics discussed.
The Ministers have talked about the most important matters in bilateral relations, as well as the security situation in the region. Preparations for the NATO Summit in Ankara and developing European defence industry were considered.
- The meeting today confirmed that Poland is among the closest partners of the Czech Republic in the area of defence, but not only defence – we cooperate in a range of social and economic fields. This is encouraging. Our cooperation has been very close for a long time now, and happens both bilaterally and in the framework of NATO and the European Union. We have similar views on many key issues, not just those related to security, but also the functioning of NATO and the European Union and the policies implemented by those two international organizations. The talks were conducted in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, and for that I am grateful. We have focused on further strengthening our cooperation and the defence and deterrence on the eastern flank of the Alliance.
- said the Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic after the bilateral meeting.
