Polish general will become the deputy commander of the V Corps

- The Forward Command of the V Corps is in Poznań and has already started its activities. I am very glad that, according to the proposal of the American side, Polish general will be appointed to the position of the deputy commander in the Fort Knox, therefore in the command of the V Corps. It will be major general Adam Joks. Our cooperation proves very strong Polish-American relations in the defense domain - said Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defense after the meeting with lieutenant general John Kolasheski, the commander of the V US Army Corps.

On March 29 in Warsaw, the head of the Ministry of National Defense discussed with the American commander, among others the Polish-American military cooperation within the V Corps. The head of the Ministry of National Defense also informed that MG Adam Joks will be the deputy of LTG Kolasheski. As the Minister emphasized, the presence of the V Corps Forward Command is a tangible proof of intensifying Polish-American relations and the fact that our strategic partnership is growing stronger. The V Corps Forward Command is the unique structure of this type in our region. Thanks to it, the cooperation between American forces and European allies will be more effective .

As Minister Błaszczak underlined, thanks to the establishment of the Forward Command in Poznań and the continuous joint training of troops, the interoperability as well as the security of Poland and the entire eastern flank of NATO increases every year.

One of the topics discussed during the meeting were also matters related to the implementation of the Polish-American agreement signed on August 15, 2020. - The agreement is very important for the current security of Poland. The settlements provided on the basis of this agreement, if necessary, allow US troops to support NATO forces, including Polish forces. I would like to say that the implementation of this agreement is taking place without any obstacles - added Minister Mariusz Błaszczak.

- Thank you very much for today's meeting and for the opportunity, to talk about the future of the V Corps. It is a very clear signal indicating that for US and Poland it is highly important to strengthen both bilateral and allied security. The V Corps Forward Command and its location in Poland deepens our defense relationship. It proves not only greater security for Poland and for the entire region but also enables to face any challenges - said LTG J. Kolasheski, the commander of the V US Army Corps.

General thanked the head of the Ministry of National Defense for the cooperation and the appointment of MG Adam Joks as the deputy commander of the V Corps - The position that the general will take is a signal of a very close, strong cooperation between the Polish armed forces and the US armed forces - added general Kolasheski.

In 2020, the V US Army Corps was reactivated in the USA. The commander of the V Corps became John Kolasheski, who on August 4 in Krakow has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. V Corps Headquarters is located in the Fort Knox, Kentucky. The establishment of the V US Army Corps Forward Command in Poznań, so the unit responsible for commanding US troops on NATO's eastern flank, was settled in the Polish-US agreement on enhanced defence cooperation signed on August 15, 2020.
