Strategic partnership of Poland and Great Britain. Three-Year Defence Cooperation Plan signed.
27.10.2026
- The Polish-British alliance has never been as strong as it is today. The agreement we signed, increasing our capabilities and cooperation, is the best example of that. We have signed an agreement on the plan of cooperation in defence. This three-year plan is the result of the Polish-British treaty, signed a few months ago. I am very grateful for this plan of cooperation. It shows our joint involvement: Polish and British soldiers, joint exercises, developing skills. The most important capabilities we are working on are the new technologies, long-range precise strikes, Artificial Intelligence, drones, anti-drone measures, but exercises training our classic capabilities and cooperation in various conditions will be organized based on this defence plan which we have signed today - said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
On 27 October 2026, a bilateral meeting took place in Warsaw between the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, and the Secretary of State for Defence Wes Streeting. The Deputy Minister of National Defence Paweł Zalewski also took part in the talks between the two delegations. The main part of the visit of the British delegation was the signing of the Three-Year Defence Cooperation Plan of the Republic of Poland and the United Kingdom by both ministers.
- Great Britain is an important partner for us when it comes to defence production. The Miecznik programme, whose phases proceed according to schedule, building integrated air defence – Narew, Pilica, Pilica+ programmes, creating an independent production line for 155 mm ammunition – these are just some of our joint initiatives. One of the largest allocations, or our investments in air defence, is being created in cooperation with Great Britain. The selection of submarines by Poland, and deciding on Sweden also happened in cooperation with Great Britain, who will have a large hand in this process. It was one of the most consequential decisions that we have undertaken.
- added the Deputy Prime Minister, noting the most important areas of cooperation.
- We have begun our meeting with the important topic of support for Ukraine. (…) This tyranny, this oppressive, neo-imperial policy of the Russian Federation is a source of harassment for Ukraine since 2014, since the occupation of Crimea and on to the full-scale invasion later. The response of Poland and Great Britain is unambiguous: we will defend liberty with all our might, we will defend our rights and our land, every centimetre of our territory. I believe I can say that during our vis-à-vis meeting the Secretary has proposed a very important message. Among the different international formats, and our ironclad alliances, we have a similar view of the alliance with the United States. Both Poland and Great Britain is in favour of strengthening this transatlantic alliance, and Great Britain is a great example of this – it is from Great Britain that all that is connected to the transatlantic alliance originated. We are in favour of strengthening and building our own capabilities, of greater independence of Europe, but not a disconnect with the United States.
- said the Minister of National Defence.
The signed document maps avenues of strategic cooperation between the Armed Forces of both countries until the end of the decade. The main topics of discussion were matters of adapting the military to hybrid threats, saturating the eastern flank of NATO with modern deterrence potential, as well as strengthening industrial ties. The ministers have also confirmed their unity and coordination in their efforts to support Ukraine.
- This is an important moment in bilateral relations between our countries. The ties of friendship and solidarity between the United Kingdom and Poland go deep, but this is not merely about our shared history – it’s also about our similar assessment of the threats we face today and our joint determination that in this struggle between liberty and tyranny the United Kingdom and Poland will not be passive bystanders. Thanks to the leadership of Poland, its experience and perspective, when Poland calls, the United Kingdom responds. We hear loud and clear what Poland experiences every day, what some call hybrid threats from Russia – I personally prefer to call it state-sponsored terrorism – I see the daily mobilization of your forces and air defence in the face of drone incursions. We are also seeing, not just in Poland but across NATO, how Putin is testing us and tests the determination of NATO. (…) The meaning of what we are doing here today is that it strengthens our capabilities, our defence industry potential and, critically, our alliance. (…) I am thankful for your friendship, support and solidarity. Poland is one of our greatest and, without a doubt, most reliable friends in Europe, and we cherish and nurture this friendship
- noted the British Secretary for Defence Wes Streeting.
