Strengthening strategic cooperation with the Republic of Republic of Türkiye
15.12.2025
- It was a very good visit. We have signed a memorandum of understanding in defence between Poland and Turkey. It entails tens of points of cooperation, which we will now put into practice. From information exchange, shared military exercises, defence industry development, cooperation of intelligence and counterintelligence services to activities developing the operational capabilities of our militaries. We have agreed to a whole sequence of actions of inter-governmental cooperation between the governments of the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Türkiye, focused especially on national defence and cooperation within the North Atlantic Alliance - noted the deputy prime minister W. Kosiniak-Kamysz after the meeting with the minister of defence of the Republic of Türkiye.
On 14 and 15 December 2025, the deputy prime minister and minister of national defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, was visiting the Republic of Türkiye. On the second day of his visit, the Polish minister of national defence has met with Yaşarem Gülerem, the minister of defence of Turkey.
- Turkey is a very important partner of Poland. Turkey and Poland are the second and third largest military force in NATO. If we were to join our operational capabilities, they would have been greater than the militaries of most NATO members, perhaps with the exception of the United States. The Polish-Turkish capabilities will be improved in operations in the air, on land, but also on the sea. Turkey is developing its fleet – thirty seven vessels are being built in Turkish shipyards in this moment. We have regarded highly our cooperation around unmanned aerial vehicles. We have discussed the possibilities of improving the TB2, but also their armaments and further developing them. This was, frankly, the longest discussion – or rather: the most open and concrete – that I have ever privately held with my counterpart. It shows, how many issues we are consistent on. I have thanked Turkey for its involvement in the peace process in Ukraine. I think Turkey is the best place to hold such talks.
- noted the minister of national defence.
The deputy prime minister W. Kosiniak-Kamysz and the Polish delegation have laid a wreath at the Anıtkabir. Then, he has participated in bilateral talks with the Turkish side, which focused on matters connected to regional security and defensive cooperation, among other topics. At the same time, representatives of the Polish defence industry held talks with Turkish enterprises.
After the bilateral meeting, a memorandum of understanding on Polish-Turkish cooperation was signed. The document encompasses military cooperation, shared exercises, defence industry development and intelligence services cooperation, among other matters.
- We have also discussed future meetings between Poland, Turkey and Romania, which we plan to hold before the NATO Summit in Ankara in July 2026. Together, we will regard the activities of the defence industry and the peace negotiations. I think that the road to peace is a difficult one – Russia does not care about it, it has been stalling for time for months. The closest real breakthrough may come in the Spring of 2026. I stress the rule of reciprocity in Polish diplomacy and defence industry: we have good equipment – we can offer it. Not only the “Piorun” launchers, but also the „Borsuk” vehicles and passive covert radars, the highest-rated in the world. Most of the drone equipment produced by our private firms, including WB Electronics, is a European leader in their categories. The SAN programme, integrated anti-drone defence, has the potential to become an export product. The representatives from WZL, PGZ and private companies participate in cooperation, joint production and sales. Poland, as a “gateway” for Turkey towards Europe strengthens our security.
- said the deputy prime minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The day before, the deputy prime minister has met with the soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces contingent in Turkey, patrolling the southern regions of the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea as part of the NATO Tailored Assurance Measures for Turkey (TAMT) operation.
