The British anti-air and anti-missile Sky Sabre system will stay in Poland for longer

13.03.2024

I would like to thank for the extraordinary support of Poland and Polish security. This anti-air and anti-missile system is an important matter. The security of NATO’s eastern flank is very important to us. We cannot do it alone. We are counting on our allies and Great Britain is a staunch ally of Poland. The minister declared that the anti-air and anti-missile Sky Sabre system will stay in Poland for longer. A decision has been reached to keep it in Poland until the end of the year – Deputy Prime Minister W. Kosiniak – Kamysz declared after the meeting with the Defence Secretary of Great Britain.

Spotkanie ministrów obrony Polski i Wielkiej Brytanii w Orzyszu. Ministrowie w trakcie konferencji prasowej na poligonie.

On March 13th, at the Land Forces Training Area in Orzysz the Polish Minister of  National Defence – Władysław Kosiniak – Kamysz and his British counterpart – Grant Schapps were discussing the development of bilateral cooperation, the situation in Ukraine and the security of NATO’s eastern flank.

The ministers have also visited Polish and British soldiers taking part in the „Dragon 24” excercise, held as part of the NATO excercises Steadfast Defender.

We are in the middle of the Polish excercise „Dragon 24”, which is part of NATO’s „Steadfast Defender”. British soldiers are participating in it (…). Those excercises are strengthening our combat capabilities and the cooperation between our countries – the head of the Polish Ministry of National Defence noted.

In total, around 20 000 soldiers and 3 500 pieces of equipment from 10 NATO states are taking part in the Polish excercise „Dragon 24”, including approximately 15 000 Polish soldiers.
As the Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak – Kamysz noted, topics related to the support of Ukraine were among the issues discussed.

We have been talking about our support of Ukraine. This is a fundamental issue and we need to act quickly. We should not only talk in multiple formats, which is important as well, but also provide the ammunition Ukraine needs. I thank Great Britain for joining the armoured capabilities coalition – minister Kosiniak – Kamysz said.
