The purchase of F-35 aircraft is getting closer

11.09.2019

- The decision of the United States Department of State approving the sale of 32 state-of-the-art F-35 aircraft to Poland means that we are getting closer to this contract. This is the most important contract in history for the Polish Armed Forces, it is the introduction of Polish Air Force into a new era. This is the creation of the capabilities for the air force, that they haven’t had so far - said Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defence.

On June 10, the head of the Ministry of National Defence began his visit to the USA and visited the Eglin Air Force Base, where, among others he became acquainted with the F-35 development program - the latest - 5th generation aircraft.

On Wednesday, September 11, the US Department of State approved the sale of 32 F-35 aircraft to Poland.

As the head of the Ministry of National Defence emphasized, the procedure for the purchase of fifth generation aircraft by Poland requires, among others obtaining approval from the US Congress, which will ultimately approve the contract within a maximum of 15 days.

Defence Minister Błaszczak informed that, as in the case of the purchase of the PATRIOT system, the price given today is the maximum price and negotiations on the costs of the contract are currently underway. - The price that has already been provided by the US State Department is the maximum price. A year ago, when we bought the PATRIOT system, the maximum price was USD 10.5 billion. In negotiations, we reached a price of less than USD 5 billion - reminded the head of the Ministry of National Defence.

The head of the Ministry of National Defence pointed out that the purchase of aircraft is necessary to guarantee Poland's security and security in the region. – We will order 32 aircraft. We need them because our fleet needs to be modernized. It is about withdrawing post-Soviet equipment, whose usefulness was artificially extended by ministers from the government of the PO-PSL coalition. (...) We have great, the best pilots in the world. They deserve to have the best equipment. (...) Poland joins this elite of countries that have the most modern aircraft providing security guarantees for our homeland and at the same time strengthening the eastern flank of NATO, because we operate on an international scale. These aircraft will be used to ensure safety in our part of Europe - said the head of the Ministry of National Defence.
