The soldiers of the Polish Army guard our safety. For this we owe them respect

11.11.2021

"It is very encouraging that so many of our compatriots come here on November the 11th, to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, at Marshal Józef Piłsudski Square, to symbolically pay tribute to all those who fought for Poland's freedom and gave their lives. Threats change over the years and centuries, but one thing remains unchanged - the attitude of the soldiers of the Polish Army. They have always guarded our safety, they protect us now and will. For this we owe them respect " - said Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defence on the National Independence Day.

National Independence Day1

On November the 11th, Poles celebrate the anniversary of regaining independence. On this occasion, patriotic celebrations are held in many cities. The central celebration of the holiday took place at Marshal Józef Piłsudski Square in Warsaw.

This year, November the 11th is celebrated under the slogan of "Uniform Respect Day". On the 103rd anniversary of regaining independence, the Polish Army invited Poles to 103 military units throughout the country, where you could see an exhibition showing the uniforms of the Polish Army. In the coming weeks, the exhibition will also be on display in front of the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw.

Visiting the halls of tradition on November the 11th, it was also possible to talk with soldiers about their service or the history of the Polish Army. The units also prepared presentations of military equipment. The Military Replenishment Commands set up their recruitment points, where everyone interested in serving in the army could learn what to do to serve the Homeland in a uniform. The Hall of Traditions is a unique place, because it is there that the military flag is displayed. This is the most important and most valuable sign of a military unit, testifying to the bravery of its soldiers and the combat ability of the unit. It is its identity, pride and history.

In his speech, the head of the Ministry of National Defence pointed out that many soldiers of the Polish Army will spend this day on duty, protecting the security of Poland and the security of our borders.

“The threats are still there, so we must take care of the security of our homeland. It is especially clearly visible today, when Poland was attacked. It is a hybrid attack by the Lukashenka regime, the Belarusian regime. There is no doubt that this regime remains in power only because it has the support of the Kremlin. Polish soldiers stand guard over our security, both Poland and the EU, supporting the Polish Border Guard officers "- said the minister.

During his speech at Marshal J. Piłsudski Square, President Andrzej Duda also spoke of respect for the Polish uniform, for Polish soldiers who defend our independence today.

“I am looking at you, soldiers and officers - standing proudly in the service of the Republic of Poland. (…) The time has come when you need to defend borders. Thank you"- said the president.

The ceremony at Marshal Józef Piłsudski Square ended with the ceremony of laying wreaths on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and a ceremonial parade of military units.
