Polish-U.S. talks on strengthening the U.S. military presence in Poland

On September 10, 2026, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defense, Mr. Paweł Zalewski, together with representatives from the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, the Support Inspectorate, the General Command, and the Cyber Defense Forces Command, met with the American delegation headed by Deputy Assistant Secretary of War Mr. William Cappelletti, appointed to lead talks for the Pentagon on strengthening the U.S. military presence in Poland. DASW Cappelletti and his team were accompanied by United States European Command (EUCOM) and representatives of the U.S. Embassy, Warsaw.

The talks addressed the conditions and provisions related to enhanced U.S. military presence in the territory of the Republic of Poland. The delegations agreed upon general timelines and the structure of further consultations, including in-person meetings in Poland and the United States, and establishing working groups for detailed discussions. The  endeavors will be based on the Polish-American Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement signed in 2020.
 
During his stay in Poland DASW Cappelletti will also visit Powidz and Poznań to  examine the current living conditions of rotational and permanent party American troops, Host Nation support, as well as implemented and planned infrastructure investments provided by Poland
