We are stronger together

“I want to thank the Italians for cooperation with Poland, both in the NATO, European Union and United Nations formats. Today we cooperate in the field of military exercises and the arms industry (…)For us, the first challenge is NATO's eastern flank, but the Polish Army is also present on the southern flank, and due to its geographical location, it is Italy that particularly deals with threats from the south. " - said Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defence after a meeting with the head of the Italian Ministry of Defence.

On Monday, October the 4th 2021, the head of the Ministry of National Defence hosted in  Warsaw, Lorenzo Guerini, the Italian Minister of Defence.

The talks focused on bilateral military cooperation and cooperation within NATO and the EU. Defence ministers also  raised the security issues of NATO's eastern and southern flank, as well as joint defence initiatives and armaments cooperation.

“We support each other in solidarity. Our soldiers are on the territory of Latvia, where they train together. As part of the mission of the European Union, the Polish Army is in Sicily, it deals with patrolling the Mediterranean Sea. We are also in Lebanon together, and here our soldiers also take care of ensuring peace and security. (…) Thank you for your openness to cooperation, for taking up challenges together, for looking for solutions together. I can say that there are many projects ahead of us. We are stronger together ” - said the head of the Polish Ministry of National Defence.

 “Thank you for inviting me to Warsaw, for a wonderful time. For this extremely important meeting, where we managed to raise many important points. We will continue these discussions because there are so many topics. During our conversation, it became very clear that we are united by the will to work together, to care for the historical bond between our countries. We are present together in many places around the world, let me just remind you of Latvia, Kosovo and Lebanon. Wherever Polish soldiers operate, they belong to the elite of the highest professionals ” - stressed the head of the Italian Ministry of Defence.

The head of the Ministry of National Defence recalled that the Italian side helps to cherish the memory of Poles who fallen  in Italy and to keep places of remembrance.

"I emphasized the solidarity shown to us by our Italian partner when it comes to historical memory, because both the Monte Cassino cemetery and the other place where soldiers of the 2nd Polish Corps are buried, are places for us, Poles, saints" - he said.
