We support Ukraine together

26.04.2022

„Establishment of Ukraine Defense Consultative Group is a very important initiative, because it allows for better coordination aid for Ukraine. During the conference, many countries indicated Poland as the country that has been vastly commited to helping Ukraine from the very beginning. Coordination of aid in that way will be more beneficial to Ukraine. We will be able to respond to specific needs that are currently being formulated by the Ukrainian side” - said Mariusz Błaszczak, Minister of National Defence in Ramstein.

We support Ukraine together

On April the 26th , the head of the Ministry of National Defence took part in the Ukraine Defense Consultative Group. The conference, which was held with the participation of representatives of several dozen countries, chaired by the US Secretary of Defence Lloyd J. Austin, was devoted to discussing the current support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and long-term plans in this regard.

As the head of the Ministry of National Defence pointed out, the role of Poland in providing aid to Ukraine is very important, which was emphasized by many countries.

“Today, during the talks, Poland's contribution to aid provided to Ukraine was mentioned . It was also mentioned that from the very beginning, and even before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Poland was the country that was involved in supporting Ukraine. In my speech, I emphasized how important the independence of Ukraine means for security - not only for the security of Poland, not only for NATO countries, but for the whole of Europe and the world. We can see who is Putin. I hope our allies in Germany can see this as well. (...) It will also be important for Germany whether they decide to impose serious sanctions, because it is crucial to stop Putin, who finances his aggression with money that he obtains from supplying energy resources mainly to Germany”

- Minister M. Błaszczak said in Ramstein.

The head of the Ministry of National Defence emphasized that the Working Group with the participation of representatives of over 40 countries under the leadership of the USA is a very important initiative, because thanks to this, aid for Ukraine may be better coordinated.

"The conference was devoted to the military situation, what is happening during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It was devoted to issues related to the support of Ukraine. (...) We want Ukraine to be independent, because Russia's domination of Ukraine is a very real threat to our country"

- said the head of the Ministry of National Defence after the talks.

For years, Poland has been providing practical support to the Ukrainian armed forces. After Russia's aggression against Ukraine, as an expression of our solidarity with that country, we provide free military aid from the resources of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland.

“Today, the most important thing is to support Ukraine in accordance with its needs, which were presented at the conference. Heavy weapons, heavy equipment are indispensable. We also talked about anti-aircraft weapons. These are two goals set by the Ukrainian side. In coordination with NATO and the US, such support is being provided and will continue to be”

- Minister M. Błaszczak said after the conference.

As the head of the Polish Ministry of Defence pointed out, one of the topics of the conference were also issues related to refugees. From the first days of the war, Poland was largely involved in humanitarian aid for the huge number of Ukrainians who fled the war.
