Poland in NATO

Held on 10 June in the framework of the Polish-Afghan political consultations, the talks between Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Marcin Przydacz and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Meerwais Nab focused on opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in key areas for both countries. Also discussed was the current situation in Afghanistan and its outlook, in the light of NATO’s decision to terminate Resolute Support mission.

On 1 June 2021, Minister Zbigniew Rau attended a virtual NATO foreign ministerial ahead of the NATO summit to be held in Brussels on 14 June 2021.

On May 31, Ambassador Tomasz Szatkowski, on behalf of the Minister of National Defense, awarded Stephen R. Covington, Strategic and International Affairs Adviser to Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) with the Gold Polish Army Medal.

On May 20 - 21 Head of National Security Bureau, Paweł Soloch visited NATO Headquarters to hold consultations before the June NATO Summit.

On 23 May 2021, Undersecretary of State Marcin Przydacz urgently summoned chargé d’affaires of the Republic of Belarus, Aliaksandr Chasnouski to the MFA. The meeting was requested to express Poland’s firm protest against forcing a civilian Ryanair jetliner belonging to a company registered in the Republic of Poland to land.

When on 3 May 1791 the Four-Year Sejm also called the Great Sejm adopted The Government Act of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth later known as the Constitution of 3 May, the Polish-Lithuanian state became the Europe’s first and the world’s second that passed the basic law. For its time, it was a progressive and bold legal act which initiated a number of reforms. It also constituted a crowning achievement of the centuries-old links between Poland and Lithuania.

The Day of Polish Community and Poles Abroad was established in recognition of the historical contribution of diaspora communities to the national objectives of the country of their forefathers. Celebrated jointly with Polish Flag Day, it is intended to encourage Poles to reflect on the glorious pages of the country’s past.

„Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia have demonstrated solidarity and reliability when it comes to fulfilling their obligations as NATO members and the contribution to our common security” underlined Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, MFA’s Deputy Foreign MInister and Government Plenipotentiary for the Polish Presidency of the Visegrad Group.

As a committed and reliable member of NATO, Poland constantly adapts to evolving security landscape, taking into consideration threats and challenges, and stands ready to support NATO Allies and Partners. In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic Poland has developed skills and capabilities to fight the health crisis. Especially in times of emergency, solidarity is what makes us stronger, which is why Poland has been ready and willing to share not only resources but also manpower and expertise.

"Representing Polish Armed Forces abroad is both an honor and a responsibility. I know that you are well prepared for the tasks waiting for you. You have repeatedly confirmed your professionalism, excellent training and high efficiency in action" - wrote Mariusz Błaszczak, Minister of National Defense in a letter to the soldiers of the first rotation of Polish Military Contingent in Turkey.
