Poland in NATO

As of the end of September the 21st Podhale Rifles Brigade will conduct a series of trainings and exercises as part of the NATO Response Force (NRF). The movement of soldiers and equipment will be visible on Polish roads.

During the first visit to Brussels on September 21 Minister Rau visited NATO Headquarters and met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

On September 9th a commemorative ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of the birth of the Solidarity Movement in Poland was held at the NATO Headquarters. The event was combined with the inauguration of the iconic Solidarity sign installed on the NATO premises.

- Today's shipment is a gesture of solidarity and cooperation with our partners, particularly with the Eastern Partnership countries. The mutual support that we provide to each other will make the adverse effects of the pandemic easier to overcome and will help us return to the path of growth, - said Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński at Wroclaw airport on 19 June 2020 as he attended the departure of military aircraft loaded with protective equipment for hospitals, doctors and nurses in Armenia and Georgia.

Minister Mariusz Błaszczak participates in the meeting of the North Atlantic Council, which on 17 and 18 June 2020 is chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stolteneberg.

On Tuesday the aid for six Western Balkan countries; Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia left Warsaw. The shipment includes more than 60,000 litres of disinfectants and 600,000 surgical masks, which amounts to nearly 70 tonnes of cargo. Assistance to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia is provided in response to the requests made to NATO Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center.

Over the years, the Treaty on Open Skies has remained an important element of the European security architecture, meant to build trust and ensure transparency in relation to military activities. As of late, we have been facing a number of challenges regarding the implementation of the Treaty related to the Russian Federation's restrictions to access its territory.

Lt Col Piotr Wachna is a deputy commander at the 4th Chemical Regiment of the Polish army based in Brodnica in north-central Poland. This regiment is considered to be the elite in the area of protection against chemical weapons.

A modified exercise DEFENDER-Europe 20 Plus will be conducted from 5 to 19 June. In total, around 6,000 soldiers, 100 tanks and over 230 combat vehicles will train at the Drawsko Pomorskie training area.
