Poland in NATO

On June 2, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to NATO together with the European Cybersecurity Forum CYBERSEC organized a seminar entitled “Cyber defence and emerging and disruptive technologies in times of Russian aggression against Ukraine.”

On Thursday, May 5, at the Military Art Academy, Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană and General Phillippe Lavignem, Supreme Commander of Allied Forces for Transformation (NATO SACT) opened the 2022 NATO Resilience Symposium.

Between 1 and 27 May exercises DEFENDER EUROPE 2022 (DE22) and SWIFT RESPONSE 2022 (SR22) with participation of Polish soldiers will be conducted on the territory of Poland and 8 other countries. There will be approximately 18 000 participants from over 20 countries training together in both exercises. The portion of the exercises on Polish soil will see some 7 000 troops and 3 000 pieces of equipment.

“In the aftermath of the talks with US Secretary of Defence L. Austin, I spoke with the management of arms companies. We will soon start to submit inquiries related to the purchase of modern weapons in order to equip the Polish Army. (…) These are new orders, but at the moment I will not discuss their scale. It will be significantly greater than the orders placed previously” - said Minister of National Defence, Mariusz Błaszczak after talks with the management of US arms companies.

Andrzej Duda travelled to Ukraine on Wednesday with the presidents of the Baltic states to meet Volodymyr Zelenski in a demonstration of support for the Ukrainian president and his country.

On 6-7 April, Minister Zbigniew Rau took part in a meeting of NATO foreign ministers, which was held in Brussels. The event was mainly devoted to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the works on the new Strategic Concept, which is to be adopted during this year’s NATO Summit in Madrid. A part of the meeting was also attended by ministers of foreign affairs of Australia, Finland, Georgia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Sweden, and Ukraine, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

A year ago, in March 2021, Belarusian security services arrested activists of the Union of Poles in Belarus, Andżelika Borys and Andrzej Poczobut.

At the 32nd Tactical Air Base in Łask, President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. - The Alliance must maintain unity, we must stand together with Ukraine - emphasized Andrzej Duda.

"A strong declaration of unity and solidarity towards Ukraine. Readiness to increase involvement on NATO's Eastern flank, of course, as the situation develops. This is a message that was shared by all participants of today's meeting, ”said Mariusz Błaszczak, Minister of National Defense after the meeting with NATO Defense Ministers at the Alliance Headquarters in Brussels.
