Independence Day of the Republic of Poland commemorates reinstating Polish state in 1918 which is a momentous occasion to celebrate in the spirit of patriotism. The reception organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Hilton Hotel in Abuja gathered numerous guests, including representatives of Nigerian authorities (Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs (ably represented), Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Representatives from the Government of Bayelsa, Akwa ibom, Delta and Katsina States, Honourable Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Regional Development, Honourable Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Honourable Minister of Defence (ably represented)) and institutions (representatives from the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Nigerian Police Forces, Surveyor General of the Federation), including universities (BUK, NSUKK, MAAUN, COOU), traditional rulers, members of diplomatic corps, representatives from international organizations as well as Poles living in Nigeria.

This was an occasion to highlight long-lasting, brotherly relations between Poland and Nigeria, drawing on examples of striking resemblance between Polish and Nigerian historical experiences, and building perspectives for the promising future of political, economic, cultural, academic and other relations between our societies. The guests also had an opportunity to try dishes of the Polish cuisine.
