National Reading (Narodowe Czytanie) of Jan Kochanowski's Poetry

06.09.2025

"Narodowe Czytanie 2025" meeting

On September 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM, a Polish community gathering was held at the Polish Embassy in Abuja as part of the “National Reading” (“Narodowe Czytanie”) campaign, under the patronage of the Presidential Couple. This year, we read poetry works by Jan Kochanowski. Ambassador Michał Cygan, MP John Abraham Godson, Embassy staff, and members of the local Polish community participated in the reading. On this special day, Consul Stanisław Guliński had the pleasure of officially handing an Act of Granting Polish Citizenship to one person – a new member of our local community.

Jan Kochanowski is considered one of the most distinguished Polish poets and the greatest European creators of the Renaissance. Jan Kochanowski’s poetry touches on a variety of topics – from the serious and profound to the lighter and humorous. The artist contributed to the development of the Polish literary language, and his incomparable works remain vibrant and inspiring to this day
