Team Europe in Nigeria

The whole world has been fighting the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic for months. Europe, despite being so hard hit by the crisis, is in solidarity with developing countries at this difficult time.

As part of the #Team Europe initiative, the European Union, its Member States and European financial institutions have allocated 20 billion euros to support crisis response, health protection and to improve the socio-economic situation of pandemic countries, primarily in Africa, the Eastern Partnership countries and the Western Balkans.

#Team Europe is a manifestation not only of solidarity and unity, but above all real help. In Nigeria, the European Union delegation in cooperation with EU countries delivered food packages to 2,200 households in Abuja and on the outskirts of the capital. Safe hand washing equipment was also purchased and distributed. Assistance went to the most needy, including disabled people, widows, female heads of households. In addition, the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ketil Karlsen, at a meeting with President Muhammad Buhari announced the EU's 50 million euro contribution to the government's COVID-19 pandemic program. President Buhari thanked for the support which, he emphasized, reflects the strong partnership, friendship and solidarity of the EU with Nigeria.
