Work

Employers are obliged to report the fact of taking up work by a foreigner enjoying free access to the labour market to the poviat employment agency in his poviat via the praca.gov.pl electronic system within 14 days of taking up work.

Registration of business activity is free. To register a sole proprietorship, one must complete the CEIDG-1 form, providing his/her own data and the data of future company, and then submit it to any city, commune or district office. It is possible to register business activity via the Internet and in person at the office.

 

A foreigner covered by temporary protection may register with a poviat employment agency as an unemployed person or a job seeker.

It is possible to register at the poviat employment agency:

  1. via the Internet by visiting www.praca.gov.pl portal and making an appointment at the poviat employment agency in order to provide the required documents and to confirm in person the correctness of the data provided

or

  1. report to the poviat employment agency in charge of the area where the foreigner is staying. If he/she is registered for permanent or temporary residence, one should report to the poviat employment agency competent for the foreigner's place of residence.

It is important for that person to have any document that proves his/her identity. This document is necessary for registration at the poviat employment agency.

If a person does not work and does not run business activity, he/she may register as an unemployed person.  Obtaining the status of an unemployed person will allow providing a person in question with a full catalogue of forms of support set out in legal provisions.

If a person works and wants to change jobs, he/she may register as a jobseeker. Then he/she may benefit from services of labour market in the field of: employment agency and vocational guidance.

After registering with an employment office, a foreigner will be able to benefit from many forms of assistance set out in applicable regulations. It includes, inter alia:

  • vocational training
  • co-financing to start a business activity
  • employment refund (interventionist work, public works, etc.)
  • reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs to and from the place of work
  • reimbursement of child care allowance for a child under 7 years of age or a dependent person, etc.
