Poland's borders closed from 15 March due to coronavirus

We would like to inform that due to the coronavirus threat the Polish Government decided to temporarily, for 10 days for land borders and 14 days for passenger air traffic, close down the Polish borders for foreigners from 15 March onwards. Polish citizens returning to Poland will be quaranteened for 14 days at home.

International flights and railway connections to Polans are being cancelled. Polish citizens will be able to return to Poland with charter flights or by car.

Foreigners will not be permitted to enter Poland unless they:
- are married to Polish citizens,
- are children of a Polish citizen,
- possess a Karta Polaka,
- have a permanent or temporary residece permit in Poland issued by Polish authorities.

To arrange your return to Poland please contact your airline or tour operator.

  • If you are travelling as part of an organised tour, contact the organiser, who should help you return to Poland.
  • If you are travelling independently, follow the procedure of your airline. Check with the airline if you can change your flight to a different EU member state from which you will be able to travel to Poland by land (by car, bus or coach). At the moment, only Germany has not announced limitations in border crossing.
  • Contact your insurance company to extend your insurance policy and check if the policy can cover the costs of changed travel arrangements and your extended stay abroad.
  • If you are running out of funds, contact your family or friends. A consul can grant financial assistance to return to Poland only in exceptional circumstances, and only to persons who cannot receive help of their family and friends (information in Polish: https://www.gov.pl/web/dyplomacja/jakiej-pomocy-moze-udzielic-konsul)
  • If you are unable to return of Poland, send an e-mail to the closest consular Office, providing your personal details and briefly describing your situation and the place where you are staying. We will inform you if there is a possibility of organising special charter flights to Poland.
  • All Polish citizens currently staying abroad have the right to enter Polish territory. Each Polish citizen returning to Poland will be examined and required to undergo a 14-day quarantine.
