The Preliminary Round of the 18th Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition has been running between 12 and 23 July at the Polish National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw. As the result of this competition 80 artists from all over the world out of 150 young pianists participating in the Preliminary Round will be selected for the Competition in October.

The Chopin Competition is the most important musical event in Poland and one of the most important musical events in the world. Apart from its huge role in popularising Chopin's music, it discovers the greatest pianistic talents, providing young musicians with the most effective start in their international career.

The first Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw took place in 1927 and was founded on the initiative of Professor Jerzy Żurawlew, a Polish pianist and educator. It was attended by 26 pianists from eight countries.

In this year Preliminary Round Thailand is represented by San Jittakarn. This Thai Pianist has been already successful in number of international competitions (incl. third prize in the Geneva International Competition and second prize in the Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition) and performed in concert with such ensembles as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre Symphonique de l’AMAmusique, Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie and Oberlin Orchestra.

We wish good luck to all young talented pianists, especially San Jittakarn.
